Annually since 2002 West End Parish Council has recognised a resident who has, without direction or reward, shown consistent contribution to the community.
This year, West End Parish Council is pleased to recognise Jackie Jenkins as our Citizen of the Year 2025. Jackie received a large number of nominations, each highlighting her steady, practical contribution to village life.
Jackie is involved in many parts of our community. She supports Teas on the Rec, WEBcare, The Hive Baby and Toddler Group, Holy Trinity Church, and the West End WI, where she serves as President. She also delivers parish magazines, helps neighbours, and is often the person who quietly steps in when someone needs a lift or a visit.
Her work at Holy Trinity Church is wide‑ranging. Jackie is a Pastoral Assistant, a member of the PCC, and the parish safeguarding lead. She also manages DBS checks and leads a monthly hymn and prayer service at Greenview Care Home. One resident wrote that she “keeps an eye out for those in need,” while another described her as “a very busy person helping, in a quiet way, many different organisations.”
At The Hive, Jackie welcomes families, prepares refreshments, and helps keep the group running smoothly. She is also a weekly presence at Teas on the Rec, where, as one nomination put it, “she is a stalwart weekly worker.”
Her leadership of the West End WI was mentioned repeatedly. One nominator said, “Without her dedication I do not know how it would keep going… she puts so much effort into making sure events and meetings run well.”
Across all the nominations, a clear theme emerged: Jackie contributes consistently, without seeking attention. Residents described her as “capable, friendly and generous with her time,” “a wonderful caring neighbour,” and someone who “does all this without fanfare or needing recognition.”
Jackie’s involvement across so many groups, and her commitment to supporting others, make a real difference to community life in West End. We are pleased to acknowledge her contribution through this year’s award.
