The Parish is the most local unit of local government, and the Parish Council is the democratically accountable tier of government closest to the people. Councillors all come from the local community and West End Parish Council works extremely hard to promote the village and improve the quality of life for its residents.
The Council has many specific powers and duties established by parliament over the years. Key areas include reviewing planning applications, and a range of environment, transport and leisure issues.
The Council itself has been greatly modernised in the past few years. Individual councillors are now tasked with particular areas of responsibility, and everyone has worked hard to develop good working relationships with the officials and councillors at District and County level. By working closely with the Borough and County Councils on a regular basis on all aspects affecting the village, we are already delivering real improvements to the services that West End receives.
West End Parish Council is far from being the biggest parish council in the area, but we are determined that it can be one of the best – efficient, accountable and good value for money.
